5 Years

This past weekend the hubby and I celebrated 5 years together! 5 years as a couple! Yahoo! It’s crazy how time passes… Anyhow, when I originally sat down to write this post I wrote it to be tied to our wedding, but then I decided that there was sooo much to share about our wedding that it needed its own page(you can check that out here)! So after that debate, with no one other than myself, I decided that this post would provide a little breakdown of our relationship and our story as a couple and how we can to be husband and wife.

Met à August 2005  | Coupleà March 2009
Engagedà Nov. 2011 | Married à June 2013

How we met:
Albert and I met in August of 2005 as freshman in high school. We hit it off right from the start and become friends. As high school went by we had some classes together and hung out at lunch, but it wasn’t until one class (Biotechnology) in junior year that we really developed a close connection. Although that class was lame, only had a total of 8 students, and the teacher was horribly monotone, we made the most of it and became really close getting to know that ins and outs of one another. As the year went on and junior prom got closer…… I was hoping that Albert was going to ask me to go with him. I nonchalantly asked him every day whether or not he was planning on going and whether or not he had someone to go with yet; however, he did not get my subtle hints and never asked me to go. So, after much debate, I ended up giving up because I didn’t want to ask a boy- I wanted the boy to ask me so I went with another friend from Spanish class who asked me. To make a long story short, I wanted Albert to not only ask me to junior prom  but to ask me out…he didn’t, so he kinda lost out as I ended up dating that friend from Spanish class for a while.

How we became a couple:
Once spring of my senior year rolled around I was single, and this time Albert knew it. For an early graduation present and birthday celebration for my mom, we went to Disneyland. In Disneyland, Albert and I were texting a lot! Then one day, March 29th, 2009, he FINALLY made his move- he asked me out!! Of course I was filled with excitement and said yes!

Engagement:
Before we knew it graduation was quickly approaching. Without even knowing it before, Albert and I had applied and been accepted to the same college! Yahoo- a long distance relationship was not needed! After our first year in college in the freshman dorms, Albert and I found an apartment close to campus and moved in together. After 2 years of a strong relationship, college firsts, our first apartment together (which means money combination), getting used to living together and building our life as a couple………. Albert got down on one knew and proposed to me on November 5th, 2011. Of course, yet again, I was filled with excitement and said yes!!

Marriage:
After getting engaged, we had several serious talks about when we wanted to tie the knot. After our discussions, we decided that we both wanted to wait until we were college graduates to get married. With it only being 2011, and with our expected gradation in 2013, we had plenty of time to focus on school and plan our wedding. We slowly started to plan things here and there and took full advantage of our school breaks. When the planning came around we started with picking a date. We both wanted to have an outdoor wedding so we knew that we had to plan accordingly and aimed for a summer wedding. Secondly, we knew that we would not be graduating until May 2013, so we started looking in June/July. After some debate and me being rather picky about wanting a wedding date that was on an even numbered day and that held some significance, we chose June 16th, 2013. Not only was this date perfect because the 6 was even, but June 16th happened to be the day that Father’s Day fell on that year. The fact that our wedding day was going to be Father’s Day was very special to me because my father passed away in 2009 and was not going to be there on my special day or walk me down the aisle. I thought- what a better way to celebrate such a great thing on a day dedicated to my father! I know that although he was not able to be there in person, he was there looking down on every minute of that day.
